Beneath the Blue

Sea Temp - 21 degrees
Visability - 20 m
by Thonga Skipper: Ty

"Went to one of our deeper reefs called "3 Sisters". Immediately 2 big bass came to have a look as we dropped onto a sand patch at about 16 m, we followed a wall about 5m high before we came to "the drop off" - at about 22m.

Nearly every schooling fish you can think live here... Snappers, Banner fish, Fusiliers, Batfish. And all your common reef fishes. Did see a very Grumpy Scorpionfish. And for the disney fans, we saw the smallest Clownfish ever. "Nemo" Clownfish really do live in anemones with their young. You can sometimes see Juvenile Nemo's under 1cm long.

Sapharina are still being seen. These are tiny single cell organisms that generate a blue light.  It almost looks like a small paint chip.  If you get close you can see they are  shaped like tiny rugby balls.  But if you get too close, they turn off their light and seemingly disappear!

The high levels of plankton in the water have brought in a lot of my favourite species like the Manta Ray and Whale Sharks - Manta's have been seen gliding over the dives. The whale sharks have been quiet though, but on one dive this week we saw 5 Turtles.  4 Loggerheads and one Hawks Bill Turtle.
