The original weekend was held in 1994, and has become a popular annual event held at the Eshowe Hills Country Club. The weekend is a three day event, beginning at 14:30 on Thursday 14th till 15:00 on Sunday 17th October 2010. This is a non-profit project, focused on promoting conservation in the Eshowe district, and includes morning guided birding outings into the surrounding forests of Ongoye, Dlinza, Entumeni and uMlalazi Nature Reserves.

These forests offer a host of rare and interesting species including Green Barbet, Eastern Bronze-naped Pigeon, Orange Ground-Thrush, Spotted Ground-Thrush, Yellow-streaked Greenbul, Brown Scrub-Robin, Green Twinspot, Green Malkoha, Narina Trogon and the Palm-nut Vulture.

Renowned local ornithologist Hugh Chittenden, author of the “Roberts Bird Guide” and “Roberts KNP Bird Guide” presents slide shows on the first two evenings on the biology, social behaviour and habits of forest birds in KZN, many of which you will see during the weekend.
