Marutswa Forest Trail and Boardwalk
Articles Reichenau Mission school visits Marutswa Forest
Staff and children of Reichenau Mission school which
is based between the villages of Bulwer and Underberg,
recently paid a most welcome visit to the Marutswa
Forest to see their old friend, Simphiwe Dumakade,
the Marutswa Bird Guide who began his training at
Reichenau Mission. The Reichenau mission school
are working wonders in their very rural community and
this tiny but much needed school is currently raising
funds to build a boarding lodge so that more rural
students can the attend school.
Simphiwe showed the children some of the many
wonders of the forest and took them through ancient
and lovely trees and was able to show the excited
children some of Marutswa’s special birds, including
the Orange Ground thrush which was calling as they
walked.
A nutritious Lunch was served, sponsored by Wildsky
Paragliding school and the Bulwer Hang gliding school,
and was kindly cooked and delivered to the forest by
Bulwer’s Mountain Park Hotel. After lunch the
children thanked Simphiwe for their educational day
out with song and gave a very kind invitation to
come and visit them soon at School to talk about
the many birds on their nearby dam.
